Although we were sad to be leaving old and new friends and moving on in our journey through the eastern USA, the time came the morning after the wedding and, having spent time over breakfast with some of the others and had an opportunity to thank the bride and bridegroom and their families, the carContinue reading “Power!”

The wedding day dawns….
It was not a very promising morning. The little sun that had been showing early gave way quickly to heavy clouds and strong winds. And then the sun shone. And went behind the clouds. And so it continued throughout the day. I had decided to drive north to find the dunes: mistake! Firstly, they wereContinue reading “The wedding day dawns….”
Into the Unknown – Gettysburg to Muskegon
It was mid-morning by the time we moved on from Gettysburg with our trusty phone acting as navigator via Google maps. Having no idea what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of the land we covered: the mountains with some amazing views – but, frustratingly for me, no stopping places to photograph them!Continue reading “Into the Unknown – Gettysburg to Muskegon”
Back in time: through Pennsylvania Dutch land to Gettysburg and beyond
I find it hard to believe how many days have passed since last I wrote here. I’ve driven over 2400 miles on unfamiliar roads, visited all kinds of interesting places, renewed old friendships and established more new ones – and it’s nearly time to leave this vast country. I’m sure I’ll be back! So- backContinue reading “Back in time: through Pennsylvania Dutch land to Gettysburg and beyond”
Disasters and delights
D-Day had arrived. I was to drive on the right-hand side of the road for the first time since 1978 when I was in Israel and seemed to follow or be followed by bombs…what would happen here? I had been pretty apprehensive until I got behind the steering wheel, but then it felt manageable –Continue reading “Disasters and delights”
City of Brotherly Love – and the Founding Fathers
We had planned a couple of days in Philadelphia as we thought it might be fun to be there on July 4th. Arriving early afternoon gave us an excuse to be lazy and we didn’t set out to explore until the hunger pangs set in and we wanted to fine somewhere to eat! That wasContinue reading “City of Brotherly Love – and the Founding Fathers”
A Tale of Two Cities
I wonder if there are two more different cities so close together anywhere else in the world? An interesting journey south from New York aboard a spacious, clean, AMTRACK train and in just over three hours we were alighting in Washington DC. What a contrast – wide tree-lined avenues, Buildings of classical proportions – andContinue reading “A Tale of Two Cities”
Farewell, New York. Hello, Washington
A late night with stage door crowds at the theatre, followed by a fairly early breakfast to spend a little time with the others and we were preparing to leave New York. Just one last visit to Central Park…. What an interesting place it is – something for everyone: shady trees for shelter, a bowlsContinue reading “Farewell, New York. Hello, Washington”
NYC keeps us occupied again
On reflection, we should have visited Ground Zero to see the 9/11 memorial on the way to Lady Liberty but having hop-on, hop-off tickets made it easy (if somewhat time-consuming!) to take the same route a second time in order to get there the next day. We all had reservations about the museum which offersContinue reading “NYC keeps us occupied again”
A day of reunions, the ‘Top of the Rock’ and exploring Times Square
Up early and ready to meet Aree and her mum. All sorts of ideas about what we might do took us a few minutes walk up West57th to the Brooklyn Diner for breakfast. A shared portion of blueberry pancakes hit the spot and Aree’s mum was amazed at how comfortable her baby was with us.Continue reading “A day of reunions, the ‘Top of the Rock’ and exploring Times Square”
