Raudisander (Raoothisander)

We guessed we were in for some harsh weather – not Springlike at all – so, having enjoyed another really good evening meal at a lovely restaurant we agreed to an early morning visit to the beach….

We woke to glorious sunshine and drove along the high mountain road enjoying the wide vistas and blue skies, rounded a corner and stopped to look ahead of us. This was our first stop.

We were on the hillside above Raudisander to give us some perspective and to get creative with zoom lenses.

Looking over Raudisander
Getting creative
And to the left…

It was chilly at that height and, having walked further down the dirt track main road, we were soon ready to move on to the beach about which we had heard so much…

We were not to be disappointed by the sight but were to be amazed by the strength of the wind forcing us to walk backwards on our return in order to avoid windburn and getting sand in absolutely everything! These were the fiercest winds I had experienced since Estrahorn last September.

Buffeted by sand and sea!
And there were just five of us!

The clouds and the time of day probably help to explain why we had this amazing vista to ourselves!! Even we spent less time there than we might have done before battling the winds back to the comfort of the car and travelling back along the cliff roads deciding on the way to treat ourselves to lunch at the restaurant where we had eaten the previous night.

Welcomed with open arms, lunch was relaxed and  leisurely before a short drive back to the hotel and an afternoon of editing, discussion and warmth while it snowed outside.

What would tomorrow bring? Will the high pass to Isafjordur be drivable?
