Windy!!!

Stokksnes is the classic place for photographs at dawn – so why should we not go for it? Five layers of warmth, waterproof jackets and over trousers and waterproof boots – some had brought their wellies. We were up before daylight and arrived at the parking place just as the first rays of light began to break through. Once we had realised just how cold it was in the biting wind we each found our own way to deal with it. I shot three or four images and then realised that what I was getting on the back screen was not what I was expecting. Not the best time to have to change camera as so much was happening and I wasn’t set up for using a tripod and all those other bits of equipment that my ‘main; camera was set up for. But change cameras I did.

I decided to stay in the dunes: I had been happy with my water’s edge images the day before but hadn’t really tried much from the dunes, so that’s where I decided to base myself for this early morning hour on the beach.

Almost before dawn!
The light of sunrise faded fast and the only speck of colour to be seen was in the jacket of a distant photographer! Grateful to have witnessed the very early colours!

On the way back to the Milk Factory we were told that plans for the day had changed because the weather had changed and it would be better to reach our second destination of the day earlier than had originally been intended. So breakfast and a breather and we were off to the north east, to a beach dominated by Estrahorn as Stokksnes is by Vestrahorn. As soon as we arrived we knew that the wind would be an issue – and a big one.

I can quite imagine families (and photographers!) having fun here – but that wasn’t the case today; every step was an effort as we pushed along the beach in the face of that biting wind.

Looking at the shoreline I found myself focussing on the little black stones being tossed around in the water: frog spawn or tapioca or is it semolina I’m thinking of?

I must have been thinking food!! Maybe because we had decided to have dinner at Pakkhaus, the unbookable restaurant in Hofn. I wasn’t disappointed!!

So another good day, including tips and tricks from our tour leader.

I find it hard to believe that tomorrow is the start of our return journey along road no. 1 to Reykjavik….

What delights will that hold…?
